PHP Developer

About the role

Bullfinch is looking for a PHP developer to develop, maintain and optimise backend applications. The role covers building new features, improving existing applications, debugging and providing ongoing technical support.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and optimise backend applications using PHP (7/8.1) and Node.js
• Write clean, efficient and testable code following established standards and best practices
• Analyse business requirements and identify opportunities to improve existing applications
• Troubleshoot, debug and resolve defects, managing issues through the defect tracking system
• Create and maintain technical documentation, including specifications and test plans
• Monitor system performance and provide ongoing technical support
• Research and implement new technologies to improve performance and scalability

Required profile

• Commercial backend development experience with PHP; knowledge of Node.js is desirable
• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, MIS or a related discipline, or equivalent commercial experience
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, good communication and customer service skills
• Self-motivated, highly organised and able to prioritise workload
• Comfortable working independently and collaboratively within a team
• Committed to continuous learning and keeping up to date with emerging technologies and relevant legislation

Required skills

• PHP and Node.js; Symfony 4/5 and Doctrine ORM
• Vue.js
• Relational and NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL, SQL and MongoDB
• RabbitMQ and Redis
• Git and distributed version control
• Understanding of SDLC and Agile methodologies
