Job description
About the role
A financial services client in Malta, represented by AIMS International Malta, is hiring a compliance professional to run its AML/CFT and regulatory compliance functions and advise its service teams. The role covers three functions: MLRO (AML/CFT and reporting), Compliance Officer (MFSA license obligations) and Compliance Advisor (day-to-day guidance to client-facing teams). It keeps the client compliant with the PMLFTR, the FIAU Implementing Procedures and the MFSA Class C CSP license conditions, while helping the business take on good clients efficiently. The position is hybrid, full time, with a salary of circa EUR 65,000.
Key responsibilities
- Act as the appointed MLRO and central contact with the FIAU and the MFSA, investigate internal suspicion reports, document decisions and submit STRs to the FIAU on time.
- Manage regulatory submissions (annual REQ, questionnaires, FIAU information requests), coordinate inspections, thematic reviews and audits, and oversee remediation.
- Prepare and present quarterly MLRO and Compliance reports and AML/CFT management information for the Board.
- Maintain AML/CFT policies, procedures and controls, and keep up to date the Business Risk Assessment, customer and jurisdictional risk assessments, risk appetite statement and client risk register.
- Review and approve CDD and EDD files, approve or refuse high-risk clients, assess source of wealth and funds, and oversee ongoing monitoring, sanctions and PEP screening.
- Advise client-facing teams on AML/CFT requirements and red flags.
- Ensure compliance with the Company Service Providers Act, the MFSA CSP Rulebook and the Class C license conditions, run an annual risk-based Compliance Monitoring Programme, maintain the Compliance Manual and monitor directorship appointments.
- Deliver AML/CFT training, maintain training logs, monitor regulatory developments and oversee Deputy MLRO or designated employee cover.
Required profile
- Degree in Law, Finance, Accountancy, Business or a related field.
- At least 5 years in AML/CFT or regulatory compliance in a regulated entity in Malta (CSP, trustee, accounting or audit firm, bank or financial institution).
- Professional AML/CFT certification (ICA or ACAMS) is an asset; being MFSA-approved as MLRO is also an asset, though equivalent hands-on experience is accepted.
- Ability to meet the MFSA fitness and properness standard.
Required skills
- Strong working knowledge of the PMLA, PMLFTR, FIAU Implementing Procedures, EU AML Directives and the CSP Rulebook.
- Experience writing or reviewing AML/CFT policies, risk assessments and Board-level reports.
- Analytical, investigative and written communication skills, particularly in regulatory correspondence.
- Integrity, confidentiality and independence; a genuine risk-based approach.
What we offer
- Remuneration of circa EUR 65,000 per year.
- Two days of remote working after the probationary period.
- Private health insurance and dedicated parking space after probation.
- Sponsored AML/CFT training and continuous professional development.
