Senior Fullstack Engineer - Node.js/TypeScript

About the role

Twin Harbour Interactive develops strategy games and is looking for a Senior Fullstack/Backend Engineer in Malta. You will design, build and improve features for the game platform, especially the services used by game teams. Initially you will extract loosely coupled microservices from a monolithic PHP application, running on a distributed architecture in Google Cloud.

Key responsibilities

• Extract Node.js/TypeScript microservices from the PHP monolith, while being comfortable with PHP as well
• Maintain and extend central shared services used by game teams, design and monetization
• Design, develop, test, deploy and improve software with high-quality, maintainable code
• Define SLOs, add metrics, tracing and logging, and take part in on-call and incident reviews
• Use AI tools to improve development efficiency and code quality
• Work with game designers and product leads on new features, and learn complementary full-stack technologies
• Contribute to technical decisions on architecture and drive initiatives for stability, performance and scalability
• Mentor engineers through design reviews and pairing, set coding standards and help with hiring

Required profile

• Proven Node.js/TypeScript development experience with strong coding and debugging skills
• Deep experience with distributed systems: queues/pub-sub, idempotency, data modelling across services and eventual consistency
• Experience developing and maintaining multi-server, high-load backend services and APIs
• Ability to integrate AI tools into development workflows
• Eager to learn other languages such as PHP or Java
• Enthusiasm for games, ideally strategy games
• Hands-on experience with agile methods such as Scrum or Kanban; cloud platforms (GCP preferred), networking and debugging distributed systems are a plus
