Lead Infrastructure Engineer

About the role

The Shared Technology Services department is looking for a Lead Infrastructure Engineer to oversee the design, implementation and maintenance of its IT infrastructure, covering cloud-based and on-premises solutions with a focus on Kubernetes environments. The role suits a strategic thinker with strong leadership qualities who can drive the team toward operational excellence.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and resource the infrastructure team to build a high-performance culture and meet project targets.
• Design scalable hybrid roadmaps and Kubernetes-centric architectures aligned with business goals.
• Drive Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD automation using Ansible and Terraform.
• Maintain performance, monitoring and uptime across physical servers, networks, storage and Kubernetes clusters, including incident response and off-hours maintenance.
• Partner with InfoSec on security controls, risk assessments and audit readiness.
• Evaluate third-party tools and manage vendor relationships to ensure SLA compliance.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading infrastructure or operations teams, with a track record of setting operational metrics such as MTTR/MTTD, uptime SLAs, cloud spend optimisation and incident response frameworks.
• Strong organisational, resource-allocation and project management skills to deliver complex technical initiatives.
• Nice to have: CKA, CKAD, CKS or AWS/Azure/GCP Solutions Architect certifications.

Required skills

• On-premises hardware (physical servers, SAN/NAS storage, enterprise networking).
• Infrastructure as Code with Terraform and Ansible.
• Multi-cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP) on Linux and Windows.
• Nice to have: RHCSA/RHCE, LPIC, VMware VCP-DCV, CCNA/CCNP, ITIL Foundation/Practitioner.
