MLRO & Compliance Officer

About the role

Blockchain is looking for an MLRO and Compliance Officer for its Malta business, reporting to the Global Head of Financial Crimes Compliance. The role oversees Anti-Financial Crime and Compliance operations for the European business, covers the MiCA licence, engages with the MFSA and FIAU and manages risk in a fast-evolving regulatory environment for cryptocurrency and blockchain.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and maintain AML/CTF policies and procedures under the PMLA, PMLR and FIAU Implementing Procedures, and submit STRs and CTRs to the FIAU on time
• Build and maintain systems and controls, and act as the central contact for AML regulators
• Investigate internal suspicious reports, liaise with law enforcement and advise senior management on AML risks
• Run periodic reporting to the Board and Country Head on AML/CTF risks, controls and gaps
• Ensure compliance with MiCA, PSD2, Maltese law and other crypto-related legislation, and monitor regulatory changes with gap and business impact analyses
• Take part in public consultations, run compliance monitoring reviews and manage regulatory risks and findings
• Support ad hoc projects such as policy drafting, compliance submissions and audit data preparation

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years of relevant AML experience and 3 years in a compliance role, preferably in financial services or cryptocurrency
• Prior experience in a leading financial institution, crypto asset service provider or payment service provider
• Comfortable working across time zones and managing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment

Required skills

• Experience with the Maltese AML/CFT framework (PMLA, PMLR, FIAU procedures); MiCA experience highly desirable
• Familiarity with GoAML and Chainalysis (or similar crypto-tracing software) is a plus
• Ability to use data and automation to improve efficiency
