Legal Counsel (Commercial & Operations)

About the role

We are helping a fast‑growing technology company in Malta to find a commercially‑minded Legal Counsel to join its expanding legal team. Working closely with the Head of Legal, you will deliver practical advice across the business while shaping and improving the legal function.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the full contract lifecycle – drafting, reviewing, negotiating, executing, renewing and terminating agreements.
• Develop and maintain legal processes, policies, SOPs and standard contract templates.
• Identify and implement efficiency improvements through process redesign and automation.
• Maintain contract repositories, governance standards and support electronic contract execution.
• Coordinate legal and regulatory transformation projects and conduct legal research.
• Assist with AML/KYC procedures when required.
• Track legal issues, provide risk‑based advice and recommend solutions.
• Explore technology solutions to streamline legal operations.

Required profile

• Law degree from an accredited institution.
• 3–4+ years of experience in a law firm or in‑house legal department.
• Strong commercial contracts experience, including drafting, reviewing and negotiation.
• Good understanding of commercial law and data protection compliance.
• Experience in technology, software, IT, telecommunications or e‑commerce environments is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of AML/KYC processes is a plus.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Strategic mindset with a hands‑on, project‑driven approach.
