Financial Controller

About the role

We are seeking a full‑time Financial Controller to manage the complete financial operations of a newly opened 5‑star boutique hotel. The role blends daily accounting and control tasks with budgeting, cash‑flow management, commercial analysis and decision‑support for senior management.

Key responsibilities

• Manage daily accounting, posting revenue from rooms, F&B, events and other services.
• Reconcile property‑management, POS, payment platforms, bank deposits and accounting records.
• Perform daily, weekly and monthly cash, credit‑card and guest‑ledger reconciliations.
• Oversee accounts payable, supplier reconciliations, payment schedules and accruals.
• Control accounts receivable, invoicing, credit limits and aged‑debtor reporting.
• Lead annual budgeting, rolling forecasts and cash‑flow planning, flagging financial risks.
• Prepare and analyse profit‑and‑loss statements, departmental margins and variances.
• Monitor competitive set, market trends, pricing and occupancy to support revenue decisions.
• Coordinate stocktakes, investigate variances and improve inventory controls.
• Produce timely management accounts and performance reports for the General Manager and owners.

Required profile

• Degree, diploma or recognised professional qualification in accounting, finance or a related field.
• Previous experience as a Financial Controller, Hotel Accountant or comparable finance position, preferably in hospitality.
• Strong knowledge of budgeting, cash‑flow forecasting, management accounting and internal controls.
• Familiarity with Maltese VAT, payroll, taxation and statutory reporting requirements.
• Ability to work independently, meet deadlines and combine detailed accounting with strategic analysis.
