Director of Finance & Accounting (Professional Services)

About the role

Our client, a leading professional services firm in Malta, is seeking a Director of Finance & Accounting to lead its external accounting operations. The role oversees a diverse portfolio that includes maritime, private client and asset‑management services, ensuring high‑quality delivery for both local and international clients.

Key responsibilities

• Direct the delivery of external finance and bookkeeping solutions for domestic and cross‑border assignments.
• Manage the financial services function for maritime, yacht ownership and related activities.
• Provide discreet, tailored accounting support to private individuals and family clients.
• Supervise financial and operational administration for the firm’s investment‑related division.
• Set and monitor service standards, benchmarks and performance metrics.
• Build and develop a high‑performing finance team through recruitment, coaching and succession planning.
• Coordinate with the Financial Controller to delineate responsibilities between client assignments and internal finance.
• Report workload, resource availability and delivery performance to the Director of Business Operations.

Required profile

• Recognised professional accountancy qualification (ACCA, ACA, CPA or equivalent).
• Minimum 7 years of experience in outsourced or client‑focused accounting within a trust, corporate services or similar environment.
• Proven leadership experience managing accounting teams across varied client structures.
• Excellent command of English; Maltese language is an asset.
• Experience in maritime finance, yacht accounting or private client services is advantageous.
