Assistant Gym Manager

About the role

We are looking for an Assistant Gym Manager to support the Gym Manager in running the fitness facilities at db San Antonio Hotel + Spa and Xemxija Bay Hotel in Malta. The role involves overseeing daily operations, supervising staff, and ensuring a safe, welcoming environment for guests across both sites.

Key responsibilities

• Support the Gym Manager in daily operations, staffing and facility standards across both properties.
• Supervise, train and motivate reception, fitness and support staff at both locations.
• Oversee bookings, memberships, payments and ensure POS/booking system accuracy.
• Handle escalated guest inquiries and complaints professionally.
• Monitor and maintain cleanliness, organization and equipment upkeep.
• Assist with rostering, administrative reporting and inventory/stock management.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety and hygiene standards, including staff training.
• Support marketing and retention initiatives to grow membership and class attendance.
• Step in for the Gym Manager to oversee full operations when required.
• Travel between the two hotels as needed.

Required profile

• Previous supervisory or management experience in fitness, hospitality or customer service.
• Valid fitness instructor certification or recognized sports/fitness qualification.
• Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills in English; additional languages a plus.
• Positive, approachable and professional demeanor with a hands‑on leadership style.
• Excellent organizational, multitasking and problem‑solving abilities.
• Flexibility to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays, across both properties.
• Own transport preferred due to the dual‑site nature of the role.

Required skills

• Proficiency with booking and POS systems.
• General computer literacy.
• Experience with administrative reporting.
