Legal Counsel

About the role

Fortytwo is looking for a Legal Counsel to provide commercially focused legal advice and support on day-to-day legal matters and to help ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations and internal policies. The role works closely with the Head of Legal and drives the development and continuous improvement of the Legal function, including processes, policies, governance frameworks and strategic legal and regulatory projects.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the contract lifecycle, including creation, review, execution, renewal, termination and record management.
• Design, implement and maintain legal processes and standard operating procedures, and identify efficiency improvements through process redesign and automation.
• Maintain contract repositories and governance standards, and coordinate legal and regulatory transformation projects.
• Research, assess and advise on legal risks linked to business decisions and operations.
• Oversee document execution using electronic signature tools and assist with AML and KYC checks when required.
• Update internal contract templates, track legal issues and give proactive advice on solutions.
• Use technology to automate and streamline legal processes where needed, and perform other tasks as required.

Required profile

• Law degree from an accredited institution.
• At least 3-4 years of experience in a law firm or as in-house counsel.
• Strong understanding of commercial contract drafting and commercial law, preferably in telecommunications, e-commerce, IT or software.
• Experience drafting, reviewing, negotiating and managing commercial contracts is essential.
• A legal practicing warrant is an asset but not essential.
• Fluent English and ability to work under pressure while handling sensitive information.
