Junior Accountant

About the role

An international group of financial services companies is seeking a Junior Accountant to join its Malta team. Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will work across multiple entities, handling a variety of accounting tasks and gaining exposure to an international business environment.

Key responsibilities

• Execute monthly closing activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals and transaction recording for the Company and related entities.
• Support debtor and creditor processes, ensuring timely collections and payments and performing necessary reconciliations.
• Prepare payment runs and act as the primary contact for banking relationships.
• Assist the Finance Manager with client cash account oversight, reconciliation and reporting.
• Prepare periodic VAT returns for related entities.
• Provide documentation and information for external audits, responding to auditor queries.
• Contribute to the production of group management accounts.
• Help automate and optimise accounting processes.

Required profile

• Fluent business English; additional languages are a plus.
• Strong team player able to collaborate in a fast‑paced environment while maintaining accuracy.
• Excellent communication skills for interaction with internal departments and external partners.
• Attention to detail with awareness of legal and compliance risks.
• Strong work ethic, integrity and trustworthiness.
• Minimum 2 years of accounting experience and a first degree in Accounting or progress towards ACCA.

Required skills

• Technical knowledge of IFRS and other GAAP frameworks.
• Understanding of local tax and VAT regulations.
• Experience with consolidation processes.

What we offer

• Competitive salary range of €25,000 – €35,000 gross per annum, reflective of experience, qualifications and skills.
