Director, Internal Audit

About the role

Shift4 is seeking a Director of Internal Audit to lead its Global Regulatory Assurance function in Malta. Reporting to the Board's Audit and Risk Committee and functionally to the VP of Internal Audit, you will own the EU regulatory audit program and serve as the MFSA‑approved Key Function Holder for the company's Financial Institution license.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, gain approval for, and execute the annual risk‑based Internal Audit plan for the EU vertical.
• Supervise fieldwork, review audit engagements, and ensure timely completion and high‑quality reporting.
• Track regulatory changes from MFSA, EBA and the European Commission and assess their impact on audit scope.
• Present quarterly audit updates to the Risk & Audit Committee, covering findings, remediation status and inspection outcomes.
• Maintain independence of the audit function, provide recommendations, and act as the primary contact during MFSA inspections.

Required profile

• Degree in accountancy or related field with a professional qualification (CIA, CISA, CAMS or equivalent).
• 10+ years of progressive internal audit, external audit or risk‑management experience in financial services, including prior MFSA‑approved Key Function Holder role.
• Hands‑on experience auditing a Payment Institution, Electronic Money Institution or comparable EEA‑licensed firm.
• Proven ability to present audit results to Boards, Audit Committees or regulators.
• Experience managing a team of at least two direct reports.

Required skills

• Audit management platforms (OPTRO/AuditBoard) and data‑analytics tools.
• ERP/financial systems such as Oracle Fusion, NetSuite, SAP, BlackLine.
• Knowledge of SOX controls and continuous auditing concepts.
