Accounting Assistant – Malta

About the role

This position offers a hands‑on opportunity to join a fast‑growing payments firm that provides financial services to iGaming businesses. Based in Malta, you will work within an international finance team handling high‑volume, multi‑currency transactions and detailed reconciliations.

Key responsibilities

• Process and post financial transactions in line with internal controls and accounting policies.
• Perform multi‑currency bank and account reconciliations.
• Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable activities.
• Investigate and resolve transaction and reconciliation discrepancies.
• Support month‑end and year‑end close processes.
• Prepare and assist with VAT returns and related reporting.
• Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation.
• Liaise with internal teams, banks, payment providers and other external stakeholders.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and controls.

Required profile

• Good practical knowledge of accounting principles and financial controls.
• Proven experience in an accounts/finance role, preferably with bank and multi‑currency reconciliations.
• Experience preparing or supporting VAT returns.
• Exposure to Maltese and/or UK accounting standards is advantageous.
• Experience in payments, banking, financial services or iGaming is a plus.
• AAT qualification or equivalent, or progress towards an accounting qualification.

Required skills

• Xero or similar accounting software.
• Advanced Excel skills.
