Senior Database Engineer

About the role

The Senior Database Engineer is responsible for engineering, overseeing and preserving the integrity, scalability and performance of the company's complex relational open source database systems. The role covers high-availability infrastructure, replication tuning, backup and recovery, performance optimization, capacity planning, monitoring and Infrastructure as Code automation, and drives the reliability and automation of the data infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Build, evolve and maintain high-availability, fault-tolerant and secure PostgreSQL (on-prem and RDS) and MySQL systems for latency-sensitive applications.
• Design and maintain database provisioning, configuration and deployment pipelines with Ansible and/or Terraform.
• Configure and troubleshoot multi-region and multi-node replication (streaming and logical replication for PostgreSQL, Galera Cluster and Group Replication for MySQL).
• Optimize query execution, indexes, engine parameters and schema design, and run disaster recovery simulations.
• Monitor system health and performance, plan capacity, and apply maintenance, security patches and upgrades.
• Document policies, standards, schema designs and runbooks, and mentor junior and mid-level engineers.
• Provide Tier 3 support for critical production systems on a 24x7 on-call rotation.

Required profile

• At least 5 years of hands-on experience as a Database Engineer or DBA in production environments; experience in i-gaming, fintech or e-commerce is highly preferred.
• Track record of managing latency-sensitive, high-concurrency database deployments.
• Knowledge sharing and leadership, with strong documentation practice.

Required skills

• Deep proficiency in PostgreSQL and MySQL, including parameter tuning and troubleshooting.
• Ansible and Terraform.
• HA solutions such as Patroni, PgBouncer, Galera Cluster or MySQL InnoDB Cluster/Group Replication.
• Point-in-time recovery, logical and physical backups, security hardening and data integrity checks.
• Bash/Shell and Python scripting, and DBA tools and monitoring suites.
