Second Electro‑Technical Officer (2nd ETO) – Luxury Cruise Ship

About the role

Explora Journeys is seeking a qualified Second Electro‑Technical Officer (2nd ETO) to join the crew of its new luxury cruise vessel. The 2nd ETO supports the Chief Electro‑Technical Officer in maintaining all electrical systems across the ship, including the engine room, hotel areas and guest facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the 1st ETO in daily inspection, troubleshooting and repair of high‑ and low‑voltage electrical equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance on generators, propulsion motors, distribution panels and hotel‑zone wiring.
• Respond to electrical emergencies, manage crisis situations and ensure safe shutdown procedures.
• Maintain accurate logs, reports and compliance documentation in line with flag‑state and STCW regulations.
• Coordinate with other ship departments to minimise downtime and support guest services.

Required profile

• Certificate of Competence III/6 – Electro‑Technical Officer (or equivalent).
• Compliance with STCW 95 certification and all required visas.
• Good supervisory abilities, problem‑solving mindset and capacity to work under pressure.
• Fluent oral and written English (B2 level); Italian or additional languages are a strong advantage.

Required skills

• Electrical maintenance on high‑ and low‑voltage systems.
• Knowledge of shipboard power generation and distribution.
• Computer literacy with basic Windows applications and office equipment operation.
