Head Gardener

About the role

Kempinski is looking for a Head Gardener for its hotel on Gozo. The post leads, motivates and manages a team of gardeners so that the gardens and grounds are kept to the highest standard, with health and safety and compliance requirements followed, including the use of personal protective equipment and safe working practices. The incumbent is also responsible for the general maintenance of the gardens, plants and lawns and for keeping them attractive to guests.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the day-to-day maintenance of the garden and garden buildings such as sheds and greenhouses, and the team that carries out these tasks
• Plan rotas for planting and maintenance
• Manage and maintain gardening supplies
• Adhere to agreed budgets, maintain quality standards and keep records
• Ensure sufficient team members at all times within agreed budgets
• Quality control of all aspects of gardening, including health and safety
• Train and develop the gardening team
• Manage the day-to-day running of all aspects of gardening

Required profile

• Certificate in a relevant trade
• Very good knowledge of gardening operations
• Experience in team management
• Good oral and written English; Maltese is beneficial
• Faculty of analysis, evaluation and decision-making in day-to-day business
• Identifies with the Kempinski core values, is people-oriented, straightforward, has a sense of aesthetics, a passion for nature and outdoor work, and is sensitive to the presence of customers
