First Electrician – Shipboard

About the role

The First Electrician supports the Chief Electrician in maintaining all electrical equipment aboard a vessel, covering both the engine room and hotel zones. This position ensures safe, reliable operation of high‑ and low‑voltage systems while supervising the onboard electrical team.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee maintenance of high‑ and low‑voltage electrical facilities in the engine room and hotel areas.
• Assist the Chief Electrician with upkeep of main electrical equipment such as alternators and propulsion motors.
• Assign and supervise repair and overhaul tasks for junior electricians.
• Inspect work in progress and on completion to guarantee compliance with standards and efficient material use.
• Prepare requisitions for spare parts and control material issuance.
• Ensure proper waste disposal in line with international and company regulations.
• Train and mentor personnel on safe working practices.
• Stand in for the Chief Electrician whenever they are absent from the vessel.

Required profile

• Fluent in spoken and written English and Italian; additional languages a plus.
• High‑school graduation with technical licences from a certified institute.
• Minimum 5 years of shipboard electrical experience on internationally operating vessels.
• Proficient with Windows computers and the MS Office suite.
• Strong supervisory, crisis‑management and problem‑solving abilities.
• Physical capability to stand, walk, lift up to 25 kg and perform manual tasks.
