Deputy MLRO (Malta)

About the role

BVNK, a stablecoin-powered financial stack for enterprises now part of Mastercard, is looking for an experienced Deputy MLRO to join its Financial Crime team in Malta. The Deputy MLRO supports the MLRO in maintaining, executing and overseeing the firm's Anti-Money Laundering, Counter-Financing of Terrorism, Counter-Proliferation Financing and Sanctions frameworks.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure AML/CFT controls comply with the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, the PMLFTR and the FIAU Implementing Procedures (Parts I and II)
• Assist the MLRO with the bi-annual Business Risk Assessment and maintain the Financial Crime Risk Register
• Gather data for regulatory reporting, including the FIAU Risk Evaluation Questionnaire
• Take part in new product reviews and support quality assurance checks on financial crime controls
• Review and investigate internal Suspicious Activity Reports (iSARs)
• Help draft, log and submit STRs, SARs and targeted sanctions disclosures to the FIAU
• Act as a contact for RFIs, court orders and freeze notices from the FIAU, Malta Police Force and international FIUs
• Review and recommend on Enhanced Due Diligence for complex legal entities, PEPs, high-net-worth individuals and high-risk sectors

Required profile

• Direct, hands-on AML/CFT experience in a Maltese regulated entity (financial institution, EMI, bank, VFA/CASP or gaming operator)
• Deep knowledge of the Maltese legal and supervisory framework, including the PMLA, PMLFTR, FIAU procedures, SMB notices and MFSA expectations
• An internationally recognised financial crime qualification such as the ICA or ACAMS is ideal
