Senior Character Animator - New IP

About the role

4A Games is looking for a Senior Character Animator to create high-quality character animations for new games targeting next-generation hardware with a proprietary multiplatform engine. The role covers gameplay and cinematic animations for player characters, NPCs, creatures and interactive mechanics, and involves mentoring junior animators.

Key responsibilities

• Create gameplay and cinematic character animations meeting the project's artistic and technical standards
• Work with Designers, Technical Animators, Character Artists and Programmers to deliver believable character movement
• Refine animation sets based on gameplay feedback and playtesting
• Help set and maintain animation quality standards, workflows and best practices
• Troubleshoot animation issues with cross-functional teams
• Mentor junior animators, document workflows and share knowledge

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience as a Character Animator in AAA game development
• Proven experience creating high-quality keyframe animations for realistic characters
• Ability to animate both humanoid characters and creatures
• Good communication skills and strong verbal and written English
• Ability to work under strict schedules and time pressure

Required skills

• Expert-level proficiency in Maya or equivalent 3D animation software
• Understanding of body mechanics, weight, timing, acting and character performance
• Experience with game engines such as Unreal Engine, Unity or similar
• Solid understanding of animation state machines, blend spaces and gameplay animation pipelines
• Preferred: motion capture cleanup, first- and third-person gameplay animations, facial animation and performance capture, IK/FK, root motion, additive and layered animation, Unreal Engine Animation Blueprints
