Aquaculture Monitoring Technician

About the role

We are looking for a highly motivated Aquaculture Monitoring Technician to run daily operations of our new laboratory in Malta. The role focuses on fish‑health diagnostics, environmental monitoring and food‑safety testing to support the production of bluefin tuna, sea bream and sea bass.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct regular health assessments of fish stock in the field and laboratory, including observation, sampling and testing.
• Perform molecular analyses such as electrophoresis, PCR and qPCR, as well as light microscopy and microbiology to detect fish pathogens.
• Develop and implement pathogen‑screening protocols with third‑party laboratories.
• Carry out monitoring, sampling and testing to ensure compliance with fish‑welfare, environmental and food‑safety regulations.
• Analyse results and advise management on risk assessment and production decisions.
• Coordinate submission of biological samples to external labs.
• Manage day‑to‑day laboratory operations, SOP adherence, cleanliness, biosecurity and inventory control.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, ensure health‑and‑safety compliance and support record‑keeping and digital reporting.
• Contribute to company policies on environmental management, fish health & welfare and food safety.

Required profile

• Degree in biology, environmental science, analytical technology or a related field.
• Knowledge of aquaculture and fish‑health management is advantageous.
