Senior Payments Controls Officer – Malta (EU Passport required)

About the role

The Senior Payments Controls Officer will join novumbank’s payments team in Malta, reporting to the Senior Payments Manager. The role focuses on strengthening governance, efficiency and resilience of the bank’s daily payments operations while ensuring compliance with regulatory and internal standards.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and maintain operational control procedures for payments compliance.
• Monitor daily payments operations through controls and spot checks, identifying inefficiencies and risks.
• Liaise with the Payments Processing Team on pay‑in, pay‑out activities and related accounting postings.
• Support funding requirements and coordinate treasury movements linked to payments.
• Oversee settlement and fee reconciliations with third‑party payment service providers.
• Design and automate reconciliation processes to reduce errors and processing time.
• Communicate with internal stakeholders to resolve reconciliation queries promptly.
• Analyse operational data, monitor KPIs and assess portfolio performance.
• Track third‑party provider uptime, abandonment and decline rates, escalating issues as needed.
• Execute post‑release regression testing and report on system stability.
• Monitor chargeback activity and fraud trends, supporting risk mitigation.
• Collaborate on projects, assist with audits and operational reviews.
