Shipboard Doctor – Cruise Ship Medical Centre

About the role

The Shipboard Doctor provides high-quality, customer-focused medical care to guests and crew aboard an international cruise liner. Working in the ship’s Medical Centre, you will deliver evidence-based treatment, manage emergencies, and ensure compliance with all health-safety regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Provide concierge medical services and evidence-based care for passengers and crew.
• Maintain accurate electronic health records in SeaCare and protect personal data.
• Collaborate with shipboard and shoreside stakeholders to ensure an excellent customer experience.
• Respond to complaints and implement service-recovery strategies.
• Assist the Lead Doctor and onboard leadership in handling significant health incidents.
• Utilise telehealth and arrange specialist referrals as needed.
• Ensure crew members hold valid medical certificates and required vaccinations.
• Comply with company, local and international regulations on contagious diseases.
• Participate in continuous medical education and departmental training.

Required profile

• Medical degree with at least 5 years post‑graduate clinical experience.
• Current full registration and a valid licence to practice.
• STCW certification and all required maritime documentation.
• Previous experience in maritime medicine on international cruise ships.
• Proficiency in English; additional European languages are a plus.
• Strong leadership and ability to work in a multicultural, multidisciplinary team.

Required skills

• Emergency airway management.
• Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
• Procedural sedation.
• Management of common fractures, dislocations, suturing and wound care.
• Use of telehealth platforms and remote specialist referrals.
• Electronic Healthcare Records (EHR) systems – preferably SeaCare.
• Computer literacy – Windows operating system and basic office software.
