Entertainment Sound Technician

About the role

The Entertainment Sound Technician is a core member of the technical team on Explora Journeys’ luxury cruise ships, ensuring high‑quality audio production for lounge performances, DJ sets and ship‑wide events.

Key responsibilities

• Manage all lounge areas, including stage, wings, house, backstage and storage.
• Conduct sound checks, rehearsals and live performances to meet safety and production standards.
• Communicate stage setups, requirements and cues with team members and hosts.
• Inspect, troubleshoot and repair sound, lighting and video systems.
• Support daily scheduled and special events across ship venues.
• Perform DJ sets and assist with broadcast duties as needed.
• Prepare handover notes and report issues to the Technical Manager.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years experience in technical entertainment.
• At least 2 years as a sound technician on a cruise ship or live‑performance environment.
• Physically and medically fit according to company policy.
• Valid passport and Seaman Book.
• Fluent oral and written English; additional European languages are a plus.

Required skills

• Proficiency with digital audio consoles and live‑show operation.
• Experience using DJ equipment and software.
• Knowledge of DANTE, QLAB, Q‑SYS and Yamaha mixing boards.
• Basic Windows‑based computer and network literacy.
