Assistant Waiter (Cruise Ship)

About the role

The Assistant Waiter supports the lead Waiter in delivering a high‑standard dining experience aboard Explora Journeys’ luxury cruise ships. Working closely with guests and the service team, you will help ensure smooth operations across the restaurant and buffet areas.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Waiter at the assigned station, including buffet service.
• Maintain full knowledge of the venue’s menu and describe food selections to guests.
• Offer and replenish water, bread, butter, beverages, and other table items.
• Transport dishes from the kitchen to the station and return used items.
• Keep the Waiter’s station, tables, chairs, carpets, and fixtures clean and sanitary.
• Set up chinaware, glassware, and silverware correctly.
• Apply food safety procedures and quality standards at all times.
• Report any guest complaints or problems immediately to the supervisor.
• Perform Room Service duties when requested.
• Participate in training programs for skill development and future promotion.

Required profile

• Experience in a 4‑ or 5‑star restaurant, hotel or resort is an advantage.
• Basic knowledge of food safety principles.
• Strong interpersonal skills, positive attitude and willingness to learn.
• Passion for hospitality and customer service.
• Cruise industry experience is a plus.
• Fluent in written and spoken English; additional European language is beneficial.

Required skills

• Food Safety/HACCP certification.
