Senior Actuary – Life Reinsurance

About the role

Munich Re of Malta is seeking an experienced Senior Actuary to support the acquisition and management of Life reinsurance business. The role will involve working with international clients and internal teams to identify opportunities, assess risk, and structure transactions.

Key responsibilities

• Identify internal retrocession and third‑party reinsurance new business opportunities, primarily in Life but also in Health and Non‑Life, in close cooperation with Munich Re business units worldwide.
• Perform actuarial and holistic assessment of incoming business.
• Structure Life reinsurance transactions, including support for Non‑Life and Health lines.
• Manage client relationships and drive business development for the Maltese market.
• Oversee incoming business in line with MRoM’s risk appetite, capitalization and guidelines.
• Monitor business development impacts on capitalization and profitability.
• Streamline internal processes and manage interfaces with Munich Re entities worldwide.

Required profile

• High‑level university degree.
• Qualified or student actuary under the German, US, UK or equivalent actuarial education system.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in life insurance/reinsurance actuarial roles.
• Exposure to Health or Non‑Life reinsurance is an advantage.
• Willingness to handle a broad range of matters and develop expertise beyond current knowledge.
• Strong understanding of profit testing, risk capital and related capital issues.
• Experience with underwriting guidelines and reinsurance treaty wordings.
• Familiarity with Life pricing tools and financially motivated reinsurance.
• Fluent business English and ability to communicate at all organisational levels.
• Good client management and problem‑solving skills.
• Performance‑oriented with a “can‑do” attitude.
• Excellent personal planning, organisation and commercial awareness.
