Public Health Officer

About the role

The Public Health Officer ensures the vessel complies with international public health regulations and MSC Cruises standards, protecting the health of guests and crew. This role involves conducting inspections, delivering training, and managing documentation aboard the ship.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct daily spot‑checks and inspections to verify compliance with USPH, Shipsan, ANVISA and company procedures.
• Prepare detailed inspection reports, coordinate corrective actions and follow up on findings.
• Monitor and audit all public health logs and records as required.
• Deliver public health training and induction briefings for deck, engine and hotel personnel.
• Participate in external public health inspections and support corrective measures.
• Perform monthly E.coli testing of potable water and other microbiological analyses.
• Evaluate existing procedures and recommend improvements to ship and shore‑side management.

Required profile

• Fluent oral and written English; additional languages are a plus.
• High school diploma; a degree in public health is advantageous.
• Minimum 3 years shipboard experience in food safety, water safety or hotel engineering, or 5 years ashore in related fields.
• Strong knowledge of public health regulations (USPH, Shipsan, ANVISA) and HACCP principles.
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to interact with senior management.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Windows operating systems.
• Hands‑on experience with HACCP implementation and inspection reporting in USPH style.
• Knowledge of international public health standards (USPH, Shipsan, ANVISA).
