About the role
Perform watch‑keeping duties and maintain the cleanliness of the engine room on cruise ships. The Oiler assists ship engineers by lubricating bearings and other moving parts of the main power plant, auxiliary engines and generators.
Key responsibilities
- Follow instructions of the Engine Officer Chief Watch for watch‑keeping, maintenance and cleanliness of engine spaces.
- Assist Engine Officers or the Foreman with maintenance and cleaning of machinery spaces.
- Lubricate bearings and moving parts of engines and mechanical equipment.
- Monitor oil temperature and gauge readings to ensure they remain within standard limits.
- Comply with safety, injury‑prevention and material‑wastage standards.
- Participate in emergency lifesaving procedures and drills.
Required profile
- Minimum two years experience as an Oiler or similar role on MSC or other cruise line.
- Secondary school graduate with required licenses.
- Intermediate oral and written English.
- Meet flag‑state health, physical and safety requirements.
- Ability to stand, walk, lift up to 25 kg and perform emergency duties.
Required skills
- Knowledge of engine lubrication and oil monitoring.
- Familiarity with international sanitation protocols.
- Understanding of STCW 95 documentation.
