Director, Internal Audit – Global Regulatory Assurance

About the role

Shift4 is seeking a Director of Internal Audit to lead its Global Regulatory Assurance function for its Malta Financial Institution license. Based in Malta, the role reports directly to the Board’s Audit and Risk Committee and is responsible for the MFSA‑approved internal audit function.

Key responsibilities

• Own and execute the annual risk‑based Internal Audit plan for the EU regulatory vertical, ensuring approval by the Risk & Audit Committee.
• Review, approve, and supervise audit engagements, including audit plans, scoping, work papers, control assessment matrices and testing evidence.
• Manage a Malta‑based audit team, oversee fieldwork, and handle audit escalations to align outcomes with company risk tolerance and regulatory expectations.
• Track regulatory guidance from the MFSA, EBA and European Commission and assess its impact on the audit universe and risk assessments.
• Lead or support complex, cross‑functional internal audit advisory engagements.
• Prepare and sign all internal audit reports, ensuring accurate regulatory citations and compliance with IIA standards.
• Present quarterly audit updates to the Risk & Audit Committee, covering plan progress, findings, remediation status and MFSA inspection outcomes.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading internal audit teams and delivering risk‑based audit programmes.
• In‑depth knowledge of MFSA, EBA and European Commission regulatory requirements.
• Ability to develop and gain approval for multi‑year audit plans and to report directly to senior governance bodies.
• Experience managing audit escalations, disagreements and remediation tracking.
• Familiarity with IIA standards and audit reporting best practices.
