Deputy Head (SI & Onsite)

About the role

The Deputy Head (SI & Onsite) will join the Senior Leadership Team of the Banking Supervision function at MFSA, supporting the Head of Function and contributing to key supervisory committees. This senior position oversees both significant institutions and onsite interactions with credit institutions in Malta.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and develop a team of banking supervision professionals.
• Contribute to the management of the department and represent Banking Supervision in internal committees.
• Oversee work on significant institutions and onsite examinations of credit institutions.
• Drive improvements in MFSA’s technical onsite capabilities.
• Support outreach activities such as meetings with firms, publications, and the annual Risk Roundtable.
• Negotiate secondment opportunities and foster professional development within the team.
• Develop management information to focus on outcomes and support the Member of MFSA in the SSM Supervisory Board.
• Undertake additional duties as required by business needs.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience, preferably in banking supervision or financial regulation.
• Strong understanding of risk‑based supervisory approaches and EU banking frameworks.
• Ability to work flexibly and manage a busy workload.
• Excellent collaboration skills across multiple teams and functions.
• Commitment to continuous professional development.
