Road Construction Operative

About the role

A full-time, permanent Road Construction Operative position in Malta, based in Msida. The operative carries out the construction, maintenance and rehabilitation of roads, pavements and other civil infrastructure, working alongside Heavy Equipment Operators, Heavy Truck Drivers and Site Supervisors to complete projects safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out road construction, maintenance, resurfacing and rehabilitation works.
• Prepare sites by clearing debris, setting out work areas and installing traffic management measures where needed.
• Perform manual excavation, backfilling, levelling and compaction.
• Lay asphalt, concrete, kerbstones, paving blocks and other materials.
• Load, unload and transport materials, tools and equipment around the site.
• Operate hand tools, power tools and small construction equipment safely.
• Carry out drainage works and install road signage, barriers, kerbs and related infrastructure.
• Maintain a clean, safe and organised worksite and follow HSE regulations.
• Follow instructions from Site Supervisors and Engineers and report hazards and incidents immediately.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years of experience in road construction, civil engineering or general construction.
• Experience in resurfacing, asphalt works, paving, kerb laying, drainage or similar civil works.
• Ability to perform physically demanding manual work outdoors in varying weather.
• Team player with strong work ethic, reliability and punctuality; willing to work flexible hours and overtime.
• Basic understanding of spoken and written English.

Preferred qualifications

• Previous experience in asphalt paving, kerb laying, drainage or road maintenance.
• Construction Skills Certification or equivalent.
• First Aid or Health and Safety certification.
• Experience on infrastructure or highway projects.

• Gross salary of 16,640 to 17,680 euros per year (about 1,387 to 1,473 euros per month).
