Heavy Equipment Operator – Road Construction

About the role

A road construction team in Malta is looking for a skilled, safety-conscious Heavy Equipment Operator. The operator runs heavy construction machinery on road construction and civil engineering projects, completes work safely and efficiently according to project specifications, and also carries out manual work when required.

Key responsibilities

• Operate heavy construction equipment such as excavators, bulldozers, wheel loaders, graders, rollers, backhoe loaders and similar machinery.
• Carry out excavation, grading, levelling, trenching, earthmoving and compaction works.
• Perform daily pre-start and post-operation inspections and report faults, breakdowns or maintenance needs.
• Carry out basic daily maintenance and routine operational checks, keeping equipment clean and serviceable.
• Follow project drawings, site instructions and operational plans, and work with Site Supervisors, Engineers, Surveyors and other construction staff.
• Comply with HSE regulations, report hazards and accidents immediately, and carry out manual work as required.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years of experience operating heavy construction equipment, preferably in road construction or civil engineering.
• Proven experience with excavators, bulldozers, wheel loaders, graders, rollers, backhoe loaders or similar machinery.
• Valid Heavy Equipment Operator certification or licence where applicable.
• Good understanding of site safety procedures, ability to interpret site instructions and work in a team.
• Physically fit, reliable and punctual; basic spoken and written English.
• Preferred: experience on road, highway or infrastructure projects, knowledge of excavation, grading, compaction, drainage and asphalt preparation, and First Aid or health and safety certification.

• Gross salary of 16,640 to 17,680 euros per year (about 1,387 to 1,473 euros per month).
